Creative talent Jaime Hayon has kicked off a renaissance of sorts for Paola C., presenting his new interpretations of more or less classic amphorae – in his own inimitable style that is. “New Roman” is the name of the modular collection of different sized vessels and matching stands, which are rounded out by a colossal copper dish. Indeed, like everyone else in Milan Hayon has also opted for metal, but his rendering is truly brilliant.
Paola C. is rose to fame with products made of metal, glass, ceramics or wood, and this is not the first collaboration between the pair: Hayon realized his very first design product back at Fabrica, the candlestick “El Palo”. Now he skilfully combines several materials contrasting their various surfaces and colours – green glass and reddish copper, matt ceramic with shiny metal, transparency with the elegance of solid body. You can safely say: Hayon’s renaissance has been a success. New Roman is a fresh and contemporary interpretation using suitable materials from the historical realm. Much to the delight of the zeitgeist. (bw)
