Less is hard – great ingredients from minimalux
May 6, 2009

The items in the minimalux collection, presented for the first time in Milan, are small, refined, expensive and perfect for an executive desk or the breakfast table in a discerning home. Be it the penholder, cylindrical and rectangular containters, egg cups or salt/pepper pots - all of this treasures are made of solid brass, with 24-carat gold or silver plating and an almost perfectly polished surface gleam. Meaning they are correspondingly heavy. Crucially, halfway between craftsman's art and mass-production articles, they create an aura of quality, soundness and longevity.

English designer Mark Holmes is the mastermind behind these ideal heirlooms, which so marvelously combine luxury and utility and exicte with their minimalist shapes and perfect gleaming surfaces. Holmes was co-founder and until recently Design Director at Established & Sons and, among other things, created e15's aluminum luminaires Seam one and Seam two entworfen. (tw)
