Urban-Think Tank

With offices in Caracas, São Paulo, New York and Zurich, Urban-Think Tank is an interdisciplinary platform for design, architecture, urban planning and research. Its goal is not only to promote sustainable urban planning worldwide, but also to move political debate on the subject forward. On December 5, the directors Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner will be holding their inaugural lectures at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich, Switzerland.

Ethics in Aesthetics

Does a need for more ethical edge automatically mean less aesthetic appeal? The symposium on "Ethics in Aesthetics" on December 6 at Stuttgart's Academy of the Visual Arts will focus on the ethical responsibility of architecture, art and design. The keynote will be held by Annett Zinsmeister, the academy's Professor of Design and Experimental Projects.

Master plan for Manhattan

Manhattan is renowned for its rectilinear street grid, which not only has a major impact on municipal institutions but also on public life. A hand-painted map, rare plans, photographs and prints highlighting the growth of the Big Apple will be on display at the Museum of the City of New York in the show "The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811-2011", which runs from December 6, 2011 to April 15, 2012.

Architect@work

The Architect@work trade fair will take place from December 7-8 in Düsseldorf's exhibition halls. There, manufacturers will present their new products, albeit exclusively for architects, interior designers, engineering offices and clients who focus on innovative products. Moreover, there's a lecture program by architects under the heading of "Metal and Architecture", and the trade fair is rounded out by an exhibition on "Heavy Metal" organized by Materia.
