Ecology: Bundespreis Ecodesign Competition 2012
What exactly is ecodesign? Sustainable design pays particular attention to the entire value chain, from the first resources used through to disposal. Until April 30, designers can enter their work into the first ever Bundespreis Ecodesign competition, comprising the following categories: Product, Concept and Young Designers. The competition organizers – the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Environment Agency – hope to use the competition to make high-quality design and ecological requirements more accessible.

Munich: Architecture by night
In the former police station, the Edmoses bar and their own studios, a selection of renowned Munich architects will be presenting their work to the public as part of the Long Night of Architects on February 8. A shuttle service will be speeding between the eleven locations, allowing visitors to enjoy something of a city tour of Munich into the bargain. They will round off the night with a closing party, where architects will also be providing guests with some musical entertainment.

Städel Art Academy: Annual exhibition by the academy's art students
From February 10 to 12, the public will have the opportunity to get to know the students and professors from the Städel Art Academy, Frankfurt/Main's State University for the Applied Arts, a little better. Over these few days students will be opening their studios to the public and presenting their most recent works. Transportation between the various exhibition locations will be provided as well as a catering service for those who want a bite to eat along the way. A number of art prizes will be awarded as part of the exhibition – a special highlight to the event.

Messe Frankfurt: Ambiente puts the Danish design avant-garde on display
More than 4,500 exhibitors displaying home accessories, gift items, tableware and other table-top items on 330,000 of exhibition space: This is Ambiente, the world's largest consumer goods trade fair, which shall be drawing crowds to Frankfurt between February 10 and 14. With "10+ Design Forecast Denmark – Future Living" as this year's title, there will be a special exhibition of progressive design from this year's partner country Denmark. Furthermore there will be a particular focus on the features of large-scale projects such as hotels, conference centers and restaurants, as well as a look at new developments in the world of materials. Young designers will once again have the opportunity to present to a wide, international audience.

Smart Interfaçades: Genuine interfaces between the inside and outside worlds
Façades come in a wide range of forms: they are interfaces between the inside and outside worlds. On March 1, as part or the "Smart Interfaçades" conference series, experts from the fields of architecture and engineering will be presenting cutting-edge developments in resource-saving, climate-regulating and communicative materials, technology and manufacture techniques.
