MAKK: Architecture in Dutch

The Museum of Applied Art in Cologne is presenting the exhibition "Stadt-Design.NL" through April 29. As the title implies, its focus is on the special characteristics of Dutch building and urban planning. The principle of an "entire city" is dominated by the integration of cultural, social and economic needs in urban planning. On April 12 there will be a lecture on the subject followed by a discussion.

Luxembourg: Design for a better attitude to life

As of April 13 the MUDAM in Luxembourg is heading an urban planning project entitled "Design City Luxemburg". Over a period of six weeks there will be events and projects relating to the topic of urban and industrial design at various venues throughout the capital city of Luxembourg. The design drive is intended to increase the attractiveness of the city and the quality of life of its inhabitants.

Boston: Vinyl comeback

In the age of digital music, downloads, and MP3s, vinyl is experiencing a revival in Boston. From April 15 in an exhibition entitled "The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl" the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) is addressing the importance of the black disc from an artistic perspective. The presentation does not, however, get lost in nostalgic rapture, but describes the influence of the record on art and Pop culture that is just as valid today. Discussions, music swaps, DJ courses and not least of all almost 100 installations, sound works, photographs and performances offer music and art lovers an exciting program.

Light+Building: Meeting point for all aspects of light

From April 15 Frankfurt/Main will be all about light. At Light+Building some 2,100 international exhibitors will be presenting the very latest trends and technologies in light, electrical engineering, and automation in houses and buildings. The fair provides an opportunity for the leading sectors in integrated building planning to come together in a single place. In addition to a highly varied events program the "Luminale", which takes place at the same time, also attracts visitors to the city. Milan: Design summit

From April 17 it is that time of year again. For the 51st time no less, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile is inviting almost 300,000 exhibitors from over 150 countries to Milan in order to define the design standards for the coming season. With numerous events, presentations and celebrations, Italy's fashion center becomes a pulsating, colorful showplace for the design scene, invigorating the industry far beyond its borders for a long time to come.
