One hundred best posters
Jul 20, 2011

The winners of the competition, "100 best posters of the year – Germany Austria Switzerland", have been on show in Berlin, the exhibition is now moving on to Neues Museum (New Museum) in Nuremberg. The competition to find the 100 best posters is considered an important institution of current poster design in German-speaking countries.

In the German Democratic Republic, prizes were first awarded to, and exhibitions first organized for posters in 1966 – and in 1980 this competition was given the title "100 Beste Plakate" (100 best posters). Thanks to the intensive and successful efforts of Verband der Grafik-Designer e.V., the Association of German Graphic Designers, it was also possible to extend the scope of the competition after the Wall came down in Germany in 1989: from 1990 onwards, more and more posters were entered. 518 designers took part in the latest competition, entering more than 1,600 posters. We are showing a selection of the prize-winning entries.
