Just in time for summer, the striking lines of the “Koala” are now available for outdoor use: Enrica Cavarzan and Marco Zavagno, the founders of multidisciplinary design studio Zaven, have adapted the S•CAB seating to withstand outdoor use. This was already a feature of the original “Koala” design: "The chair had to be adaptable to different needs so that a product family could be created. We therefore opted for an outer ring that is connected to the legs and supports the seat. The backrest can also be attached to this. This line is recognizable in every further development of the chair, giving the family continuity,” said Marco Zavagno in an interview with Stylepark. The combination of structural elements and textiles gives the design a clear, contemporary aesthetic while meeting the functional requirements of durability and comfort. In the outdoor version, the sweeping form of the backrest is encircled by soft ropes, yet the characteristic colour scheme and graphic expression remain intact. Measuring 56 x 50 x 78 centimetres, the compact and versatile “Koala Outdoor” can be enhanced with an optional cushion for added seating comfort.
The well-thought-out construction and durable materials also contribute to extending the product’s lifecycle, underscoring the commitment to integrating sustainable aspects into the design. This interplay of technical precision and design clarity exemplifies the philosophy of S•CAB, a family-owned company founded in 1957 in Coccaglio near Brescia. From the beginning, the company has focused on the living space as a place for quality of life, specialising in seating furniture since the 1960s. They manufacture in their own factory in Italy and, thanks to the transparent cycle with the metal, they can basically produce anything they want. We really value this expertise. It also saves costs and resources, as production takes place in one location", says Marco Zavagno.
Thus, “Koala Outdoor” is in every sense a dynamic advance in materiality, form, and function – a chair that creates the perfect setting for long summer evenings.
