The first World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) will be celebrated on June 29, 2008. Alongside the national ‘Tag der Architektur’ (Day of Architecture), for the most part on the last weekend in June, this year on June 28 and 29, industrial design is now to be given its its own global moment of recognition as well. The WIDD was launched by Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design), the international umbrella association of industrial designers, and marks the day it was founded, namely June 29, 1957. In future, this day is intended to be an annual celebration of the efforts of industrial designers and their influence on our quality of life. The event, still very young and unknown, has hitherto been marked in Germany only by free entry to the red dot design museum in Essen.
