For some people, design is "the next big thing? in the art market or even a worthwhile investment option because if is often seen as a hot tip. Not just since Design Miami and Design Miami/Basle collectors have taken an interest in design and realized signed one-offs, early originals, prototypes or limited editions of creations make items worth collecting. At auctions, historical design items not to mention objects by contemporary designers regularly change hands for prices well above the estimated values. Moreover, precisely in the era of CAD original design drawings are also receiving greater attention: They document the development from an idea to the finished product, reveal a lot about the way the designer works and often make the original idea, handwriting or wit of the creative person more immediately recognizable than the finished mass-produced item which is subjected to the dictates of production itself.DESIGN UNIKAT marks the launch of an online gallery entirely devoted to the topic of design drawings. Set up by a Hamburg design team, DESIGN UNIKAT seeks to link the increased interest in design with new PR and earning opportunities for designers. The gallery has called on industrial and product designers to submit sketches or renderings as JPEGs, whose originals they would like to sell. It only accepts signed drawings of those products, which actually did go into production later. Payment follows according to the commission basis standard in the gallery business; for the first 25 items submitted the gallery receives no commission for the sale of the first drawing. The sale at www.design-unikat.de starts October 31, 2007.
