In recent years, cafés with a minimalist interior of design furniture have increasingly become a trademark of Prague. The family-run Café Záhorský in the Dejvice quarter is likewise young and hip. Magdalena Rochová from the architecture studio JRA Jaroušek Rochová converted the ground floor of the Art Nouveau building into a café and bakery with seating for 78.

The room’s focal point is a rounded wooden bar that joins onto the bar and bakery counters on the left and right. Bentwood furniture “Punton” by Ton was chosen for the interior of the café. Its designer Tom Kelley translated the form of classic coffeehouse furniture into clear lines, with beech wood and stainless steel characterizing the puristic chairs and low barstools. In addition, the seat of “Punton” can be upholstered with real or artificial leather. The matt coloring of the chairs in dark gray, ivory and red not only brightens up the room, but also contrasts perfectly with the subtle white and gray used for the walls and the playful wall decoration, namely wallpaper with a décor of antique plates that covers one of the walls and the ceiling.
