Memento in Barcelona
The “One Ocean Club” on Barcelona’s revered Port Vell marina is considered the absolute life-style place to be. Here, in a leisurely atmosphere guests can sit back and enjoy culinary interpretations of Catalan delights – rounded out by the vibrant interior architecture of the local “El Equipo Creativo” studio, which took its cue from the sea and yacht masts. Shimmering and reflective surfaces in blue and green as well as metallic structures that provide a basis for the countless climbing and hanging plants foster a maritime mood in the restaurant and bar zone. The fluid transition between the indoors and outside underscores the breezy summery setting.
For the club’s bathrooms the choice also fell on something special: black ad anthracite colors from floor to ceiling, interrupted only by the white graphics of out-sized details from ancient navigation maps, stellar constellations or mythological figures such as Pegasus the winged horse. The pure white, rectangular wash stands from Villeroy & Boch’s premium “Memento” collection are placed in a repeating line along the dark marble wall. Thanks to their high-grade “CeramicPlus” surface the washbasins themselves are easy to clean. The mirrors are mounted in yellow-gold pipes that also form the metallic base frames. And to top it all, the clear lines of Dornbracht’s classic “Tara” mixers complete the image. Hardly surprisingly given this love of detail and elaborate design the “One Ocean Club” won the “Restaurant and Bar Design Award 2016” in the categories “Best Bar in Europe” and “Best Overall Bar”.
