With the exhibition "Here We Are! Women in Design 1900 - today", the Vitra Design Museum will present a comprehensive show on the works of female designers, architects and entrepreneurs from 1900 to the present from 23 September 2021 to 6 March 2022. An overview of 120 years of design history, which female designers have decisively shaped. Their valuable contribution was often classified as inferior due to the sexist image of women in a patriarchal society, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. The show therefore focuses on the struggle of female creatives for equal rights to access educational institutions, funding and recognition of their work, as well as their successes and groundbreaking works. Divided into four chronological sections, visitors can trace the creative and social development with the help of diverse exhibits. "Here We Are! Women in Design 1900 - today" also looks to the present, shows upheavals and discussions on feminism in today's society and gives an insight into the current work of designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Julia Lohmann or the Matri-Archi(tecture) collective. The exhibition is complemented by numerous talks, workshops and events in the accompanying programme. (am)
