Living history

McLaren.Excell architects have converted a village mill in the southwest of England into a charming residential building - Vola sets the functional accents in it.

Preserving the existing and gently bringing it into the present - that was the approach of McLaren.Excell architects to convert a late 18th century village mill into a residential building. The result takes the visitor to the county of Wiltshire in southwest England on a journey into the history of the region. The Victorian mills and waterwheel have remained in their places in the house and have been integrated into the rooms behind glass. The transition from the existing structure of the mill to the modern extension is barely perceptible: red brick alternates with massive wall panelling made of oak wood, striking raw steel corresponds with the wooden beams that have always supported the ceiling. Vola's products in black matt finish set fine and at the same time extremely functional accents: from the two-hole mixer with a 590 M single-lever mixer in the kitchen to the SC5 bathtub rim mixer. The industrial-looking colour scheme and curved shape of Vola products harmonise perfectly with the original atmosphere of the historic mill.
