STYLEPARK WAGNER LIVING
Seven tons of glass

The wagnerdesignlab by sedak and Wagner Living in Langenneufnach, Swabia, is a building of superlatives from the ground up: designed by Titus Bernhard Architekten, the rectangular superstructure in steel construction stands on supports at a lofty height above the former childhood home of Peter Wagner.

The great transparency of the façade guarantees that the building retains its charm despite its large spans of the picturesque landscape: four triple insulating glass panes measuring 3.04 metres by 19.21 metres were used without window frames for the wagnerdesignlab – the world's largest insulating glass panes ever installed worldwide. "Each consists of three individual panes joined together with the help of an edge seal, the spaces in between are filled with inert gas. The thinnest is a float glass eight millimetres thick," explains Titus Bernhard. sedak developed its own machinery especially for the production of the oversized panes. "The holding points of the panes are vulcanised metal blocks that correspond exactly to the joint of our Dondola systems to absorb any movement of the glass," says Peter Wagner. The curtain-type, rear-ventilated façade also provides a pleasant indoor climate with certified wood and mineral wool. "Commercial construction is usually overlooked, yet it can be designed with just as much dedication and conceptual approach as residential construction, Wagner has recognised this," says Titus Bernhard.
