A light-coloured fabric cover with an easy-care nano-coating and an aluminium strip along the top edge – the design of the new ‘MIRA’ ultra-short-throw projector has an unusually homely feel. It is intended to integrate seamlessly into the home, and so the projection unit blends discreetly into the top of the housing, whilst the clearly arranged connections emphasise the tidy overall impression. Measuring 46.4 x 26.8 centimetres, “MIRA” is one of the more compact models in its class.
The technology, in turn, opens up new possibilities for large-format projections from a short distance from the projection surface: a distance of just 19.3 centimetres from the wall or screen is sufficient to produce an image with a diagonal of 100 inches. This means that large projection formats can be achieved even in places where traditional projectors reach their limits due to their greater space requirements. For image reproduction, XGIMI utilises a 4K RGB triple laser system with a native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The system is based on separate red, green and blue laser light sources, which enable precise colour reproduction. As a result, the system covers 110 per cent of the BT.2020 colour space and offers a particularly wide colour spectrum. XGIMI specifies the light output as 2,000 ISO lumens. In addition, the Chinese manufacturer quotes a contrast ratio of 20,000:1, which is said to be achieved using so-called DBLE technology. This technology enhances contrast and distinguishes between light and dark areas of the image.
The image quality is said to really come into its own in rooms that can be darkened, such as the living room and bedroom. Thanks to the ‘Wall Colour Adjustment’ function, the display is effortlessly adjusted to match the colour of the projection surface. For an optimised viewing experience, XGIMI recommends a separately available ultra-short-throw screen. ‘MIRA’ achieves its high sound quality thanks to a powerful 36-watt Harman Kardon sound system. Despite its built-in powerhouse, the projector runs surprisingly quietly during operation.
According to the XGIMI team, the features – thoughtfully designed right down to the smallest detail – help to “make the projector’s day-to-day use as effortless and intuitive as possible”. These include quick setup, plug-and-play functions, clear navigation and an easy-to-understand user interface. This approach is supported by ISA 5.0 technology, which automatically handles various image adjustment steps – such as focusing, correcting geometric distortions, adapting to unevenness in the projection surface, and aligning the image. The projector can also be controlled via voice commands using Google Assistant.
With the development of “MIRA”, XGIMI is staying true to its philosophy of creating products that are “easy to use, easy to set up and affordable”. Key components, such as optical elements, the lens and the optical module, are developed and manufactured in-house. “At XGIMI, we see sustainability as part of responsible product design, rather than as an isolated feature.
