01 Material Profile

material description

DuPont™ Corian® is a solid, non-porous, homogeneous surfacing material composed of ± 1/3 acrylic resin (also known as PolyMethyl MethAcrylate or PMMA) and ± 2/3 natural minerals. The main mineral of this solid surface is Aluminium TriHydrate(ATH) derived from bauxite, an ore from which aluminium is produced. DuPont™ Corian® is hygienic, long-lasting, renewable and easy to repair.

With over 100 colours now available, DuPont™ Corian® can be formed into virtually any shape or form a designer can mastermind. It withstands a lot of wear and tear - even the heavy abuse received in high traffic commercial environments. Where scratches and cuts do occur, these are easily removable, while more serious damage can generally be repaired on-site with a minimum of inconvenience. Moreover the material is easily shaped and fabricated: Corian® is joined with inconspicuous seams and can be modelled via thermoforming. It can be treated via CNC machine routing and images can be transferred on the surface via sublimation technique.

The iceberg of Bordeaux

The sleek, icy white façade of the Seeko'o hotel is already making a statement in the dockland area of Bordeaux. Seeko'o means "iceberg" or "glacier" in Inuit... and from the
start this was an unusual and adventurous concept.
