Biography

Benedetta Tagliabue studied at the Istituto Universitario de Architettura di Venecia (IUAV), completing her studies in New York. In 1989 she moved to Barcelona, where she resides today. In 1991, she joined forces with Enric Miralles and founded Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, a studio which has designed projects in China, Germany, England, The Netherlands, and many other countries. Their work has received numerous accolades; the latest being the lifetime International Fellowship conferred by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 2010. Notable projects include the Spain Pavilion at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, Barcelona’s Santa Caterina Market and surrounding area (1997-2005) and the Scottish Parliament Building (1999-2004). Her work extends into the area of set and interior design, with noteworthy works including sets for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (2009), the play From I to J by Isabel Coixet (2010) and the interiors for the Camper shoe stores in Seville, Barcelona and Washington (2009-2010). In 2001 she was the recipient of the Delta de Oro Award in Industrial Design for her design of the Lungomare Bench for the Escofet Company.
