Derek Welsh is a designer and maker of contemporary furniture and bespoke interior projects characterised by the simplicity of angled lines and unique structures.
Born in 1971 he served his apprenticeship with a small carpentry and joinery firm in Scotland where he gained invaluable knowledge of time tested traditional methods and woodworking skills. After studying advanced carpentry and working in various areas including teaching, Derek set up his own studio in 2005 to concentrate on his passion for designing and making furniture.
His work has been exhibited at 100% Design London (06, 07, 09) and in 2007 he was invited by The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture & Design, to create an installation of new work for The Scottish Show 07 showcasing alongside leading Scottish designers. Following the shows success selected designers were invited by the The MUDAC in Lausanne, Switzerland to exhibit at their internationally acclaimed design centre which promotes designers and artists from around the world.
Derek strives to make distinctive quality products, exquisitely crafted by hand and hand finished with character and integrity and from concept to
completion he is dedicated to producing imaginative forward thinking ideas that embrace skill and hard work.
