Jens Ammundsen

Biography

Jens Ammundsen received his MAA and MDD from the Danish School of Arts and Crafts (now called the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – The School of Design), in 1969 and qualified as a Furniture Joiner, winning a silver medal, in 1966.
He was partner and director of Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter from 1977 through 2009, holding artistic responsibility for design, space, layout, luminaires, fixtures, product development and the company’s aesthetic profile.
In collaboration with Louis Poulsen and Jens Gudum, Jens Ammundsen developed a string of luminaires including: the DR wall fixture, the Makeup luminaire, the Studio range, the Terminal wall fixture, the Terminal outdoor luminaire and the Transit wall fixture.
Jens Ammundsen has won a number of prizes including the iF Product Design Award for outstanding design in 1999.
In his work with buildings, Jens Ammundsen has always placed particular emphasis on the interaction between details and the project as a whole, and has focused his design especially on the individual purpose, coordinating these elements to create convincing holistic solutions.
Jens Ammundsen has worked on numerous projects including the former DR Radiohus building on Rosenørns Allé in Copenhagen, and he was also in charge of remodelling this to create The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
