Designing the rules
With “Matter,” Ege Carpets and Snøhetta present a woven collection that brings together digital processes, textile materiality, and spatial impact. Rather than patterns, the surface is defined by texture, variation, and depth.
At the core of MATTER is a redefinition of how patterns are created. Inspired by the functional beauty of natural systems, Snøhetta Product Design developed a generative design process that translates randomness into woven form.
Using code as both tool and medium, randomness is no longer a byproduct – it becomes the logic that drives the design. Instead of repeating patterns, MATTER uses a set of randomized algorithms to generate a woven composition that is always shifting – subtle, non-linear, and alive. The result is a surface that feels closer to nature than to machine: ordered, yet never predictable.
