A must for any building pro

In 2019, BAU in Munich will once again see the entire construction industry come together.

From January 14 to 19, 2019, BAU – the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials and Systems – will once again open its doors at Munich’s exhibition center. More than 2,000 exhibitors and predicted visitor numbers of a quarter of a million make BAU the biggest and most important event in the industry, and it’s the meeting point for all those working as professionals in planning and construction. Four key themes lend structure to Bau 2019: The theme of “Digital: Processes + Architecture” focuses primarily on work with BIM (Building Information Modeling), while “Connected: Living + Working” deals with the effects of trends such as home office, multigenerational living, urbanization and urban densification on residential planning and construction. The key theme of “Integrated: Systems + Construction” revolves around integral planning processes for more complex and highly technical projects that involve architects, engineers, specialist planners and tradespeople. The key technologies of prefabrication and modular construction are also addressed here. Finally, “Smart: Light + Buildings” tackles the areas of “smart building” and light planning.

The key themes are supplemented by the special shows taking place as part of BAU 2019. Under the title “Building elements TripleS,” ift Rosenheim will demonstrate the use of intelligent building elements, drives, sensors, and security systems. “Living spaces of the future: digital, sustainable, smart” is the name of the special show by Fraunhofer Bauforschung, at which products and solutions from the areas of BIM, sustainability, and smart building will be presented. Meanwhile, the German Sustainable Building Council, or DGNB, is offering an overview of the status of sustainable building under the motto “Sustainable is the new normal.” Finally, in the special show “Smart Living” by the German Society of Gerontechnology, a real sample property is used to demonstrate planning ideas for living in all phases of life. On top of all this, architects, planners and engineers attending BAU 2019 can look forward to a variety of conferences and gatherings, as well as the 27th Bavarian Engineers Day. In cooperation with various partners, BAU is holding guided tours of the exhibition for different groups of visitors and on specific themes.
