Ideal Foundation
The starting point for the planning of the nursery school located near the Fischbach in Thalgau was the idea of spatially integrating learning, physical activity, and community interaction. In a Europe-wide design competition, the firm architekten schoenberger from Neumarkt am Wallersee won with a pavilion-like hybrid wooden structure designed for six nursery school groups: A delicately structured wooden façade, generous glazing, and a wraparound veranda create fluid transitions. Inside, fold-out sliding walls provide an open spatial layout that can be adapted as needed. Thanks to the natural materials, the space appears harmonious in every configuration: white-stained spruce wood and light-colored exposed concrete surfaces create a serene atmosphere.
Particular attention was given to the floor as a defining element: The warm feel, soft color palette, and fine grain of the Bauwerk Parkett planks create a unifying foundation between the functional areas and emphasize the architecture’s inviting character. The “Trendpark 1390 Natural Oak” collection was installed over approximately 1,050 square meters: This brushed and naturally oiled two-layer parquet, featuring generous, unbevelled planks, is both durable and easy to clean. At the same time, the wood meets the high standards for healthy living: “Especially in educational buildings for children, a large part of daily life is spent directly on the floor – whether playing, reading, moving around, or resting,” according to the architects.
The low emissions of this product from Bauwerk Parkett, as well as its suitability for sustainable building concepts, have been confirmed by independent certifications. In collaboration with Bauwerk Parkett, a spacious stepped seating area was also installed in the cube, connecting both floors and serving as a meeting place, lounge area, and play space. The stairs are also made of the same material.
The new building in Thalgau illustrates how architectural quality, educational requirements, and sustainable construction can be combined into a cohesive whole. The hybrid wood construction, practical spatial layout, and choice of natural materials complement one another. The floors by Bauwerk Parkett are an essential part of the interior design concept and enhance both the quality of the spaces and their long-term usability.
