The magnificent Hôtel de l’Industrie in Paris’s fourth arrondissement has been a meeting place since the 19th century: It’s a building where cultural events are virtually a tradition. The international design event Paris Déco Off, which runs until January 20, 2020, features an installation in one of the Hôtel de l’Industrie’s stucco-adorned rooms, which was created for Création Baumann by designer Christoph Goechnahts. The designer has developed abstract structural elements that are covered with the new “Solio” material by Création Baumann and lure the visitor into a magical forest. “I wanted to create a sensory experience in which guests could feel a bit like they are being urged onwards,” says Goechnahts. In terms of color, the installation – and it comes with the title “The Recreational Nature of Color” – with its pixelated linen look itself offers a great insight into the versatility of the textile, which is available in a wide range of colors. Thanks to the non-glare lighting that Christoph Goechnahts has integrated into the load-bearing frame, the full spectrum from lilac and red to yellow and green on display to particularly appealing effect. Drawing on the inspiration of the forest, the lighting changes during the day, becoming lighter at times and then darker. “The precisely illuminated spots are also reminiscent of little glowworms and thus emphasize the atmosphere of the installation,” the designer explains. Abstract sounds add another layer to the sensory experience in the space.

A total of 117 showrooms located in the city’s St. Germain district make up the Paris Déco Off. This time, sustainability is a key focus of the event, so the designs on display aim to offer aesthetic alternatives that are environmentally friendly. “Solio” from Création Baumann meets these criteria immediately, since the fabric is produced according to the principles of sustainability and the ecological standards OEKO-TEX 100 and ISO 14001.
