Sustainably optimised

At this year's ISH from 13 to 17 March 2023 in Frankfurt am Main, Geberit presented a wide range of sanitary solutions and smart ideas that simplify planning as well as use and maintenance. Designer Christoph Behling has been designing for Geberit for many years and gives us an overview of the novelties in this interview.

Anna Moldenhauer: What was the basic idea for the Geberit WC "Acanto"?

Christoph Behling: "Acanto" reflects Geberit's philosophy: to optimise all facets of the existing, from installation to daily use and cleaning. Separating the installation system and the ceramics in the WC does not really serve the purpose of optimising this interaction for the future. Our idea is a synchronised movement of cistern and ceramics, a system that is quick to install and has up to ten times the flushing performance required by the standard. And that's what "Acanto" offers. Installation and maintenance are simple, as both the concealed cistern and the WC ceramics are from a single source - Geberit provides a spare parts guarantee in this context. In parallel, the flush is not only more efficient, but also more silent. In addition, by purchasing the Duofresh module, odours can be almost completely neutralised with the help of a carbon filter. In the development of sanitary products, aesthetics were the main focus for a long time, while we accepted suboptimal solutions in terms of function. If you compare the development of the toilet itself with that of kitchens or cars, we are still at the very beginning of the possibilities. In this sense, "Acanto" offers important progress.

In addition, the "Sigma70" flush plate from Geberit - the stainless steel version is now also available in matt black, and there are new PVD variants in red gold, black chrome and brass. In what way does "Sigma70" also provide a visual highlight in the bathroom?

Christoph Behling: "Sigma70" is a minimalist flush plate that has very quickly become the "darling" of architects because it offers a wide choice in both material and colour. Basically, "Sigma70" can be designed in any RAL colour for project business. Since it consists of only two panes, the design is very fine; in format, it has now gained in panorama. The function is purely mechanical, and there is also a Redel screw with which the shadow gap can be adjusted to the hundredth millimetre, so that the transitions always sit quite perfectly.

Which other products have been revised?

Christoph Behling: The Geberit "Option" illuminated mirror is also available in new colours as well as shapes and sizes. We have adjusted the colour temperature to be warmer than before. We have introduced the colour black matt into many Geberit product designs, such as the cover of the horizontal washbasin drain and the wall-mounted tap of the "Geberit ONE" series. Likewise, we are showing the CleanLine50 shower channel with an integrated slope. Many of the optimisations improve the function in the long term without being outwardly conspicuous - that is typical of Geberit.

What are the benefits of "Geberit Connect", which was also presented at ISH 2023?

Christoph Behling: The "Geberit Connect" concept enables the digital networking of various sanitary products, both in new buildings and in existing buildings. The bathroom can thus be integrated into the building automation system and flexibly networked. The Geberit Control app also allows comprehensive and convenient control of commissioning and operation.
