INGO MAURER

During the Milan Design Week, the team of Ingo Maurer enlivens the medieval archway "Porta Nuova" with a staging of light, colours and reflection.

The "Porta Nuova" in Milan was once part of the city walls of Milan. Built in 1176, it stands today in the middle of its own traffic island like a symbol of the transition from the old to the new world. During the Milan Design Week, Ingo Maurer's team chose this special place of transition to illuminate it with a light installation: A carpet a good 30 metres long, covered with fluorescent colours, connects the front part of the island with the green rear part through the arch, which offers visitors a place to relax and exchange with free-standing seating. Above it, at a height of up to five metres, a reflective material will be stretched to reflect the colours and light of the surroundings. At night, the floor will also be partially illuminated so that the work offers visitors a fascinating dynamic between architecture and light at all times. The gateway also serves as a prelude to the new products from Ingo Maurer's artistic portfolio, as these can be discovered in seven rooms of the gateway's two adjoining annexes, such as the "Signature" and "pic-a-stic" luminaires. At the same time, both new products and the internationally renowned classics will be exhibited at Euroluce. "We are back with full force. Now is the moment to put all our skills on display," says Axel Schmid of the Ingo Maurer Design Team. (am)
