Interface 2023: PAST FORWARD

Retro design, reinterpreted with modern design influences: "Past Forward" displays the expressive charm of historical designs with 14 products in four colourways each, from the 60s and 70s to the Rococo period and Renaissance motifs. "The design process included research and conversations with pioneers of carpet tile manufacturing to capture the nostalgia of historic designs and their evolution," says David Oakey, founder of David Oakey Designs and product designer for Interface. The inspiration ranged from Axminster and Wilton designs to hand-painted motifs and modern tufting technology.

Thanks to the wide range of possible styles and colour schemes, "Past Forward" from Interface can be used to create both calm and dynamic spaces. The modular, textile floor covering can also be used to create customised pathways and zoning. Thanks to their robust character, the carpet tiles are highly durable and can be used flexibly, as you would expect from Interface – from work surfaces to living spaces and hotel lobbies. To minimise the CO2 footprint, they are made from recycled polyamide. (am)
