Working with a View

Taking their inspiration from "rough meets warm", roller-blind solutions by Kvadrat Shade and textiles by Kvadrat ensure a pleasant atmosphere in the Fellow Workspace in Aarhus.
5/3/2021

Working flexibly in an office-cum-hotel – it was on the basis of this philosophy that Companyons opened "Fellow", a co-working space, in 2020. Here, startups, companies and freelancers can rent fully equipped offices, flexible workplaces or meeting rooms, depending on their requirements. The offices’ location in Aarhus harbor represents another plus point, because the glazed façade allows users to enjoy a full panorama view out over the water. In order to strike a balance between the view and the homelike atmosphere Companyons has opted for roller-blind solutions by Kvadrat Shade.

The first collection by this new company offers architects plenty of aesthetic scope as the roller blinds can be individually adapted to the specific purpose and feature different textiles and mounting cassettes. For instance, for the meeting rooms the "Niesen" textile designed by Alfredo Häberli was the preferred choice. Manufactured in the Netherlands, this fabric by Kvadrat Shade is lightfast and flameproof. The material has strong solar reflection due to it’s aluminium coated backing and thus ensures an ideal indoor climate. In addition, it also contributes to pleasant acoustics and protecting occupants from inquisitive eyes outside.

Soft Contrasts

The custom-made seating by joinery company Krøyer Gatten was then covered in upholstery fabric by Kvadrat. Daybeds, niche benches and sofas lend the lounges, meeting rooms and café area a homely atmosphere. Taking their inspiration from "rough meets warm", the interior furnishings make for a pleasant contrast with the concrete walls and the frequently windswept sea outside. Going by the name of "Remix", the fabric chosen for the sofas is well suited to the wear-and-tear to which it will be exposed in the public areas. The covering material used for the bench seating is "Re-wool" a sustainable upholstery fabric consisting of 45 percent recycled wool from Kvadrat’s production facility in Great Britain. And for the chairs the decision was taken to use "Twill Weave", "Still", "Remix", "Balder" and "Melange Nap". These fit in with the Kvadrat Shade roller-blind solutions installed in the conference rooms and at the workstations.

"We opted for Kvadrat and Kvadrat Shade because of their high quality, the wide range of options they offer, their modern colors, and their Scandinavian provenance – all aspects that fitted in with the kind of feeling we wanted to create," explains Ulf Monrad Gaardsted, the proprietor of Companyons Workspaces. And he adds: "The collaboration process was also very enjoyable. We felt they were deeply and genuinely interested in our project and our ideas and we received outstanding advice and guidance."
