FEATURED PREVIEW – MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2024
MÜLLER / LAMPERT / TECNOLUMEN / THONET

In a converted ballet studio, four manufacturers accept invitation for a little dance on the occasion of Milan Design Week: Müller Möbel, Richard Lampert, Tecnolumen and Thonet present brand new products alongside tried and tested pieces in a lively mix.

In keeping with the vibrant Brera neighbourhood, designer Steffen Kehrle has devised an exhibition concept that focuses equally on "the four Germans". Using temporary structures, he presents their products on reflective cardboard honeycombs - elegant, yet casual and sustainable. There is no clear separation, neither between the brands nor between old and new. Design icons can thus be viewed in dialogue with the latest creations, which in turn refer back to the tradition of their brands in terms of their formal language and craftsmanship.

Thonet is pursuing precisely this intention: together with Sebastian Herkner, the traditional Frankenberg-based company has set about redesigning the iconic cantilever chair in an exclusive collection. In "Rethinking Classics: S 32/S 64 DARK MELANGE", natural colour nuances for wooden elements and frames meet dark iridescent wickerwork – a material innovation based on natural dyeing processes. The "Offenbach chair" is also being reinterpreted: As elegant and versatile as ever, but now more spacious and even more comfortable, Herkner is further developing the "118 Fine Dining" model for more sophisticated seating.

Tecnolumen is just as conscious of its tradition: To mark the 100th anniversary of the legendary "Bauhausleuchte" by Wilhelm Wagenfeld, the manufacturer is presenting an anniversary edition with the designer's signature and a special book addition. The "EB 27" table lamp, designed by Édouard-Wilfrid Buquet in 1927, also exemplifies the interplay between innovative design and the precision craftsmanship of the Bremen-based manufacturer. With "4 Shields" and "Half Paul", a fusion of classic modernism and contemporary design has also been realised. Created by designer and professor of geometry Oliver Niewiadomski, the shapes of the new lamps are inspired by the geometric base of the oloid.

Richard Lampert will equip the legendary "Eiermann" Tables 1 and 2 with new colours and materials: On the one hand with table tops made from textile remnants from the Kvadrat Really collection, and on the other with solid wood tops created in cooperation with Janua / Edition Stefan Knopp. The sculptural "E10" rattan armchair and matching "E14" stool, originally designed by Egon Eiermann in 1949 and 1957, will also be presented in a colour variation. The "Salto" and "OneTwo" products are completely new: a casual piece of paper furniture for the office by Tilla Goldberg (Ippolito Fleitz Group) and a split mirror with a minimalist metal frame by Steffen Kehrle, which plays with space and reflection.

For over 25 years, Müller Möbel has combined a fascination for modern furniture design and the material metal. Successful highlights such as the "New Classic Line" and the "PS 20" secretary are shown with the new "Match" shelving and wardrobe system. This can be flexibly customised and creates structure and order. Whether on the wall or free-standing in the room as a room divider, "Match" can be individually equipped with cabinets or drawers, clothes rails, hooks and storage boxes – in all RAL colours. The high standards of the company's own product are evident in every piece of furniture manufactured in the Augsburg factory.
