An Exclusive Retreat

On Bawe Island, a private island resort off the coast of Zanzibar, Villeroy & Boch collections define the design of the elegant bathrooms. They complement the resort’s holistic concept and combine timeless aesthetics with the functional requirements of modern luxury hospitality.

An oasis of tranquillity surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, Bawe Island redefines contemporary luxury hospitality. A defining element of the resort’s design concept is the bathroom experience, where Villeroy & Boch collections shape elegant spaces that combine sophisticated aesthetics with exceptional comfort and functionality. Throughout the 70 villas of the Cocoon Collection, each with a private pool and butler service, the brand’s coordinated solutions further enhance the creative vision of Weylandts, whose interiors are characterised by natural materials, muted tones and clean, understated lines.

In the wash areas, countertop basins from the "Artis" collection in Alpine White have been selected. Their delicate contours are made possible by Villeroy & Boch’s TitanCeram ceramic, which combines filigree forms with exceptional stability. Paired with taps from the "Dawn" series, they create a harmonious overall look that subtly enhances the calm and tranquil atmosphere of the rooms.

Freestanding bathtubs from the "Theano" collection provide a special highlight for guests seeking relaxation. Crafted from Quaryl® – a material developed by Villeroy & Boch that combines quartz and acrylic resin – they impress with their precise design and pleasant tactile quality. In some villas, the bathtubs have been integrated into the outdoor area, allowing guests to enjoy sweeping views of the tropical surroundings. Together with taps from the "Conum" collection, they introduce distinctive accents to the minimalist interior, creating an appealing contrast between understated elegance and bold presence.

The shower areas follow a similarly refined design approach: Made from Quaryl®, the "Squaro Infinity" shower trays can be adapted to the layout of each space and installed almost flush with the floor. This enables them to integrate seamlessly into the bathroom architecture while enhancing the sense of spaciousness. They are complemented by solutions from the "Universal Showers" series, which combine everyday comfort with practical functionality.

In the toilet areas, products from the "Subway 3.0" collection in Stone White have been chosen. With its minimalist design, the collection blends naturally into the villas’ overall aesthetic. At the same time, technologies such as TwistFlush and the CeramicPlus surface finish meet high standards of hygiene, ease of maintenance and resource efficiency.

Through its coordinated solutions, Villeroy & Boch has created a holistic bathroom concept on Bawe Island that consistently continues the resort’s design vision. The project demonstrates how sophisticated design, innovative materials and functional requirements can be brought together in luxury hospitality to create a harmonious and memorable overall guest experience.
