The fact that architecture and design can make a fundamental contribution to intuitive learning processes in children is demonstrated by “O.novo Kids,” a bathroom collection by Villeroy & Boch. The bathroom specialists collaborated with teachers, designers and children to develop products which are suitable for children and both fun to use and functional. Ranging from washbasins to toilet seats, the relevant products’ ergonomics are child-friendly. Being able to cope with bathroom functions themselves encourages children to be independent; accordingly, the projection of the in-line wash stands in the range can be adapted to the arm lengths of different age groups.

In the way of faucets “O.novo Kids” offers a single-lever mixer with scald protection which allows small users to set water pressure and temperature easily and by themselves. Different-colored finishes playfully enhance the learning effect, with the primary colors red, yellow and blue marking the various functional elements such as levers and flush panels, thus helping them to get the hang of things. With the toilets colors were used as a tool in order to foster intuitive learning success – the seat offers two integrated rings for various age groups, which the children can select as appropriate. Special cushioning on the underside of the seat prevents it from slipping sideways. The toilet’s low height and its grab handles on the sides also promote safety of use. Rimless DirectFlush technology makes for optimum hygiene and the silver ions in the enamel of the washing areas offer an additional antibacterial effect. (am)
