Timeless elegance
In 1961, the Danish entrepreneur Verner Overgaard met with his compatriot, the star designer and architect Arne Jacobsen, to discuss the new building for the Danish National Bank. Overgaard presented Arne Jacobsen with the idea of a wall-mounted tap in which all parts are concealed in the wall. Only the handle and spout were to remain visible. "This was a revolutionary, completely new concept at the beginning of the sixties," says Birthe Tofting, Sales and Marketing Director at Vola A/S. In 1968, they jointly presented the world's first concealed fitting, the Vola 111. Like all subsequent designs by Arne Jacobsen for Vola, which are manufactured in the company's own factory, this one is based on clear, linear forms. A design language that is still current today and can be combined to create a pleasantly homogeneous design. (am)
