AD-1 Dining Chair

Acapulco Design, is adding the AD-1 to its collection, which can be classed as the younger brother of the large Lounge Acapulco Chair: the cantilever Acapulco Dining Chair. This is no random interpretation made of steel and PVC cords of the type you often see, but a studied further development of a Lounge Chair into an upright chair. Here, he was assisted by the Munich-based design duo HANSANDFRANZ. “At first, we were skeptical as to whether we would be able to meet our responsibility towards a true design classic. But with the archetype of the cantilever, we realized early on that there was great potential for combining a Mexican feel, comfortable seating and the airiness of the Lounge Chair“ (quote by the designer Horst Wittmann). The chair basket, which now rests on this raw construct, is similar in structure to the Lounge Chair, but is just slightly modified so that the user can enjoy the Acapulco Feeling at the dining table. The whole project might sound simple, with a casual-looking result, but it involved a great deal of hard work. After all, the brilliant idea of turning the chair into a cantilever in such a systematic way is completely new.

The fact that production of the chair, like its big brother, is also being supervised by Mexican master craftsmen, makes it an original.
