Elegance fit for everyday use

For his “BetteBalance” washbasin series, designer Dominik Tesseraux opted for glazed titanium steel. Not only are the basins hygienic and robust, but the material gave rise to designs that combine a refined formal idiom, clear lines and almost weightless lightness.

Glazed titanium steel is the term used for sheets of titanium steel that have been shaped under high pressure and refined with a thin coating which is akin to glass. Bette, a family-owned business based in Delbrück in central Germany, specializes in bathroom elements made of this special material; it is hypoallergenic, hygienic, and durable, while also offering the designer a wealth of opportunities. “For us, glazed titanium steel is a very special material. Robust and, at the same time, delicate and dainty. In order to develop products such as ‘BetteBalance’, products that are expected to exhibit a timeless everyday aesthetic, we need to repeatedly take the manufacturing technologies absolutely to the limits, and beyond,” explains designer Dominik Tesseraux of Potsdam-based company Tesseraux + Partner.

Platform Strategy for Washbasin Furniture

While developing the “BetteBalance” range, bathroom fit-out specialists Bette came up with four variations on the insides of these washbasins to suit all kinds of different needs, requirements, and stylistic tastes. These round washbasins made of the robust and elegant glazed titanium steel are suitable for various applications and stylistic settings. “‘BetteBalance’ represents the kind of elegance that is ideal for everyday requirements. In this context, one of the major challenges was to align these different possibles uses to Bette’s own special production technologies,” comments Tesseraux. What made the challenge so interesting was that the material is very slender and boasts clearly defined edges. At the same time, glazed titanium steel is optimally easy to clean – in bathrooms, in particular, a decisive benefit. To further underscore this plus point, with “BetteBalance” the designers have opted for an absolutely round, ergonomically optimized inside surface that is 395 millimeters in diameter for the basin. This means that whatever kind of plughole is chosen, large quantities of water will not be splashed onto the surface of the basin and unsightly stains avoided.

Other ingenious details in terms of both design and practicality are the facts that the plughole is in the middle and boasts an enameled plug – a reference to the successful “BetteAir” flat shower tray – and the fact that there is no overflow hole in order to ensure an immaculate easy-to-clean surface. The “BetteBalance” product system boasts a light, fresh appearance, with counter-top and built-in versions completing the collection. Because the range has been produced as a platform system, it has been possible to keep manufacturing costs so low that these high-class products are available in a very reasonable price category and still represent a real alternative to other quality materials. This basin system not only comes in four versions but also in a large number of sanitaryware colors, as well as in exclusive matt hues and highlight colors.
