CLASSICON

With Gabriel Tan’s “Soft Stone Sofa,” ClassiCon is introducing a modular sofa system for the first time at the Salone del Mobile 2026.

The design of the 'Soft Stone Sofa' combines sculptural precision with a striking aesthetic, forming the basis of ClassiCon’s presentation at this year's Salone del Mobile. The character of this extraordinary piece of upholstered furniture is shaped by two influences: the staggered stone terraces of the Parque da Cidade in Porto and the ambivalence of Isamu Noguchi’s works, in which forms and lines merge dynamically. Gabriel Tan has translated this concept into eleven asymmetrically arranged modules of cubic upholstered elements. With its rounded corners and clearly defined volumes, the design combines organic and geometric aspects, lending the furniture a calm yet powerful presence.

ClassiCon’s booth concept showcases the sofa in various configurations, upholstered in fabrics from Zimmer + Rohde to highlight its versatility and material depth. As well as the meticulously crafted form, guests can experience the high level of comfort offered by the “Soft Stone Sofa”. The presentation is complemented by side tables designed by Sebastian Herkner, Guilherme Torres, Konstantin Grcic and Ortega Guijarro, as well as rugs from the Eileen Gray collection. These rugs are crafted from either New Zealand virgin wool or wild nettle. These elements come together to create a harmonious space that echoes and extends the sofa’s design.

A limited-edition version of Eileen Gray’s “Bibendum” armchair highlights the company’s historical legacy. The sand-coloured version, which features a nickel-plated tubular steel frame, celebrates the design’s centenary and establishes a clear connection to modernism.
