A charming way to kick off the season
Once again, spring is in the air, tempting us out of doors in our free time, out onto our balconies and patios, into gardens and meadows, but most importantly, out into the fresh air. And out there, among the plants and greenery, there is a whole range of new furniture by Rolf Benz waiting for us, in their own elegant yet comfortable way, there to greet all those of us wanting to take the weight of our weary limbs. In the shape of “YOKO” for Rolf Benz, Toan Nguyen has dreamt up an outdoor collection that remains flexible in every situation – the collection can be arranged to suit different tastes and fit into whatever space is available, comprises both sofa combinations and armchairs, as well offering tables and chairs. “The modular outdoor sofas in the ‘YOKO’ collection can be reconfigured at will and represent pure relaxation. A mixture of different genres, they combine the clear lines of German design with the spirit of Zen and have a slightly French/Italian feel to them,” explains Nguyen. The explanation for this lies with one of the range’s basic materials – a striking aluminum frame which makes every product in the collection pleasantly lightweight and weatherproof. For the sofa range, this basic element is complemented by stainless-steel bracket clips on all sides, allowing their shape to be changed, in the twinkling of an eye – from a corner sofa to a recamier.
Moreover, Nguyen’s creative mixture of styles for Rolf Benz is apparent in the collection’s details, which are, incidentally, full of contrasts. From the belts on the sofa frames to the chairs’ cording, the designer combines the different trends, transforming them into a new entirety. That the range is comfortable is guaranteed by its removable, washable upholstery which comes in Calm White, Mellow Grey, Reviving Blue and Relaxing Green. This new outdoor collection now boasts a total of over 40 fabrics, allowing users a wide choice of options for lending “YOKO” its own, individual, appearance. And the fact that Nguyen’s design for Rolf Benz always focuses on comfort is apparent from the appearance of the shelves under the cushions in the collection, which come in teak or a ceramic finish. And if users suddenly require a table for their alfresco dinners, the round or square tabletops for the coffee tables and side tables represent a fitting solution. Both come on a cylindrical base. With this brilliant array of possible functions, Rolf Benz’s “YOKO” offers many ways of enjoying the year’s most beautiful season in a relaxed manner. (am)
