A break in the best light
As temperatures drop outside and the landscape is bathed in soft winter light, the longing for bright rooms and sweeping views grows. Thanks to the collaboration between Velux, the world’s largest manufacturer of roof windows, and Landfolk, the Danish online platform for hand-picked holiday homes, you no longer have to search far and wide for that idyllic spot to relax. The two brands are highlighting the importance of daylight, architecture and thoughtfully designed spaces with the Daylight Collection: a total of 100 holiday homes in Germany, Denmark and Sweden have been selected for this curated collection, all of which feature large windows that deliberately integrate daylight into the living experience. The Velux Future of Home Report 2026 also emphasises that light is far more than just a design detail: 16 per cent of those surveyed feel that the amount of daylight in their living spaces is insufficient. Four in ten of those affected report negative effects on their mental wellbeing.
The interplay between daylight, quality of living and nature is also at the heart of the partnership between Velux and Landfolk. The range of houses selected for the Daylight Collection illustrates just how closely spatial effect, connection to nature and architecture work together: at Kronsee in Schleswig-Holstein, the water, the sky and the architecture of the chalet are reflected in the large glazed areas. Depending on the time of day, the atmosphere in the rooms changes, whilst the sweeping view through the windows blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. Further north, in Kettrup Bjerge on the Danish coast, the open location between the dunes and the sea shapes the living experience – generous roof windows and wide sightlines bring the natural surroundings into focus and allow them to be experienced from within.
The EcoNeo in Denmark, developed by Saga Space Architects, conveys a more tranquil character: warm wooden surfaces, compact rooms and a precise design create an environment that is efficient down to the last detail, inspired by space architecture. The passage of the day can be perceived with particular awareness in this tiny house: thanks to the generous skylight, the sky is always within reach, whilst the living area remains hidden from view from the outside. “Each of these houses offers something that is becoming increasingly rare: space to slow down. Plenty of daylight and fresh air create the ideal conditions for rest, deep relaxation, a clear head and precious moments together,” says Christian Vilgaard Thomsen, Vice President of Regional Marketing for Northern Europe at Velux.
With the Daylight Collection, Velux and Landfolk have thus curated an exceptional selection of retreats where the tranquil power of light, architecture and landscape is particularly palpable.
Tip: To mark the launch of their partnership, Velux and Landfolk are giving away a holiday in a selected holiday home from the Daylight Collection in Germany. The competition runs from 28 October to 18 November 2026. The winners will be announced on 23 November.
