Towels Delight

David Thulstrup has converted a former water pumping house in Copenhagen dating from 1902 into the “Chimney House” an exclusive holiday home.

The “hotel” by the Danish company Vipp, which manufactures home utensils, follows a concept where the number of beds is certainly not the focus of attention.

Rest, nap, read or let your thoughts wander during the day – on a daybed. Be it an upmarket modern version, a narrow bench, a chaise longue or a new wave – they all look great.

As regards design, Denmark certainly has its finger on the pulse of things. Is this anything more than a re-edition of Danish Modernism? Are objects being made sustainably inside Denmark? A trip to “3DaysofDesign” in Copenhagen provides the answers.

This fall, the presentation at Paris’ “Maison&Objet” focused on accessories of every shape and kind. Dominating themes in the trade fair halls of the “Parc des Expositions” included wood, porcelain and clever combinations of different styles.

What's important when it comes to so-called charity design, apart from well-intentioned social commitment, is seductive marketing. In recent years, Danish manufacturer Vipp has stood out from the rest, in relation to this type of creative event. In no time at all, Vipp has evolved from a small professional design company to an internationally successful lifestyle brand, with their incredibly simple but functional pedal bins.
