DEDONTRICOT modular lounge system
With TRICOT, DEDON is expanding its outdoor portfolio with a new modular lounge system by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. The collection translates DEDON’s signature weaving artistry into a contemporary design language. Flowing contours, exceptional comfort, and a wide range of configuration options define the design.
The name TRICOT is derived from the French verb “tricoter,” meaning “to knit,” and refers to the collection’s central design element: a woven surface whose appearance and texture are reminiscent of knitted fabric. It is crafted by the experienced weaving masters at DEDON’s workshops in the Philippines.
The result is a three-dimensional structure with soft, continuous lines that give TRICOT a distinctive materiality and sculptural presence.
A low seat height and generously sized back and armrest cushions
create a relaxed seating environment. TRICOT is conceived less as a classic furniture collection and more as a flexible living space. Five modules allow for numerous configurations, ranging from linear sofas and corner solutions to lounge islands and daybeds. In this way, the system adapts to different spatial situations and lifestyles, interpreting the outdoor space as a versatile environment.
Barber and Osgerby drew inspiration for the collection from the interplay between landscape and craftsmanship. The enveloping forms are reminiscent of dunes, sheltered coves, and wind-sculpted landscapes. The two color variations, Oat Knit and Haze Knit, reflect the natural nuances of fibers and vegetation. At the same time, the distinctive braided structure reacts to shifting light, creating subtle tonal variations throughout the day.
For TRICOT, the designers chose DEDON Fiber Touch, a fiber with a round cross-section that is characterized by its soft feel, flexibility, and durability. It creates a surface with the appearance and tactility of a textile while also meeting the requirements for outdoor use. It is precisely this combination of technical innovation and artisanal craftsmanship that defines the character of the collection.
At the same time, TRICOT highlights DEDON’s artisanal expertise. Each
element is hand-woven. The production of a single lounge chair alone requires more than 50 hours of weaving. Time thus becomes an essential component of quality and durability.
