Sleeping Beauty on Mallorca
by Anna Moldenhauer | 7/3/2019
OHLAB Architekten have tenderly kissed the former glory of an old Spanish townhouse back to life with their boutique hotel Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden.
An explosion of colours, a collection of chairs designed also for outdoor use that communicates all the expressive power of Africa at first glance.
The shape of the chair, and the armrests in particular, draws its inspiration from the male ostrich courtship dance - banjooli in Wolof language – in which he spreads his wings to show all the beauty of his feathers and impress the female.
Sofa, chair, table: the covering of the structures in steel is made by the hand-weaving colourful strings from the nets used by fishermen in Senegal. Real authenticity. Each design differs from the next and indulges in recounting its unique merits and defects because every item, in the choice of its colours, passages of string, and in the conversations of the craftsmen has its own tale to tell.
Products of relationship, for relationship, with the hand-made touch that permits the personalization of the colours and type of weave.
