Charming contrasts
Hotelier Steffen Schillinger describes the concept for the Fritz Lauterbad in Freudenstadt as "Urban Black Forest". To this end, the Karlsruhe-based architecture firm archis planned an extension for the former luxury hotel Zollernblick, a traditional and listed Black Forest wooden house dating from 1896. The result is a combination of modern and traditional wooden architecture that, despite all the contrasts, is harmoniously combined by finely tuned details and is also convincing on the inside: there, 67 modernly designed rooms offer a mix of natural materials, furniture in warm tones, industrial-style elements and, incidentally, a panoramic view of the Black Forest. A new addition is the Appartement47 by monkey47. This is a three-room suite created in partnership with Black Forest dry gin brand monkey47. AXOR products were selected for the faucets, showers and accessories.
Following the motto "back to the roots", monkey47 and landlord Steffen Schillinger invite you to a stylistic excursion into the past at Appartement47 by monkey47 with a wink of the eye: In keeping with the retro chic, there are various VHS tapes, a record player with vinyl records, a typewriter and even a "copper bar" in reference to the copper stills in which the fruit for juniper schnapps is traditionally distilled. Niches on the ornamental windows and wood paneling echo the traditional architecture of the Black Forest house and provide space for a desk and leather sofa. Added to this is wallpaper with ferns, leaves, and most importantly, monkey figures in various outfits as a tribute to monkey47 gin. The suite was designed and planned by the Cologne-based design studio Stil Manipulation in collaboration with monkey47 and the owner of the house, Steffen Schillinger, who specifically chose AXOR faucets, showers and accessories for the bathroom: "We chose AXOR because the variety of products and the design fit absolutely perfectly with the concept of our new suite. The terrific quality, design language and surface finish make you happy just looking at them. More projects and concepts will follow soon and AXOR will definitely be on board again," he says.
The spacious and bright bathroom gives guests a pleasantly calm atmosphere: The glossy white tile backsplash has concrete-look accents and has been combined with a vanity unit in dark wood. The single-lever washbasin mixer from the "AXOR Citterio E" collection in Brushed Black Chrome blends unobtrusively into the ambience. In addition, there is the "AXOR Showerpipe designed by Front", which was also refined in the special Brushed Black Chrome finish. With its two spray types, it offers the option of choosing between an overhead and a hand shower. The ensemble is complemented by the "AXOR Universal Circular Accessories Shaving Mirror" and the "AXOR Universal Accessories Towel Hook". In keeping with the design language of the suite, AXOR's faucets, showers and accessories once again focus on the contrast between old and new and show how tradition and modernity can be combined in a stylish way.
