As a pioneer of a new way of living, Rolf Benz has been offering sustainably manufactured upholstered furniture for six decades now. The “SINA” anniversary collection links the company’s beginnings to current needs for multifunctional solutions.

“Rethinking seating” was a guiding principle for Rolf Benz from the outset. It was back in 1964 that the young upholsterer from Nagold in Swabia presented the “Addiform” sofa and armchair series, the first variable, modular upholstered furniture. Flexibility and a feel for modern ways of life and living have been firmly anchored in the company’s DNA ever since. In 2011, the in-house brand freistil Rolf Benz was added, which celebrates creative freedom and unconventional ideas. The multifaceted upholstered furniture is harmoniously complemented by further interior design items, such as the flexible, modular “Rolf Benz Stretto” wardrobe furniture system, the “Rolf Benz KIO” coffee table by Sebastian Herkner, and the “Rolf Benz 983” solid wood table with steel base, complete with optional pull-out function by Michael Schneider.

In short, it’s a straightforward strategy for success that attaches great value to proven concepts and leaves room for functional flexibility. Thanks to a particularly varied fabric and leather collection, too, the Rolf Benz company is always able to cater to personal preferences, including with a selection for hospitality, hotels, and other public spaces requiring flame-retardant fabrics and highly robust leathers – namely, the Rolf Benz Contract range. Right now, for example, numerous cabins on the first cruise ship of the new InTUItion class in the TUI Cruises fleet are being furnished with bespoke upholstered furniture: A good 1,900 sofas in three formats are being produced by Rolf Benz specially for the project.

To this day, all the company’s upholstered furniture is made in Germany, primarily by hand, from the frame through to the covers. Another pioneering innovation is the circular sofa system “Echt” which is part of the freistil Rolf Benz line and for which every step in the construction, material selection, and service has been scrutinized and optimized. The covers can be washed and replaced as preferred, just as every other part of the sofa can be reordered for at least ten years to come. The foam parts, meanwhile, are made of 100-percent polyurethane and were produced according to BASF’s “biomass balance” approach, which means it is also possible to use renewable raw materials from biomass in the production process. All components, from the wooden frame through to the outer upholstery, are delivered in a flat pack and can be assembled using conventional tools. The Rolf Benz and freistil Rolf Benz brands also both bear the renowned “Blauer Engel” seal of approval from the German Federal government attesting to their being environmentally friendly products for a healthy living environment; they likewise boast certification with the RAL “Golden M” quality mark.

An anniversary as important as 60 years merits celebrating in style: To mark the occasion, Rolf Benz is emphasizing its claim to offer tailor-made solutions that are high in quality so that they can be used over a long period of time. “SINA” is the name of the elegant anniversary model, which combines the company’s history with contemporaneity in one single product: As a modern advance on the “Addiform” classic, it offers a modular living landscape that can be adapted according to requirements and space. The upholstered frame provides the basis for a wide range of seating, reclining, and coffee table options, while generous seat cushions ensure a particularly high level of comfort. With more than 200 fabrics and 80 leathers to choose from, the upholstery likewise caters to everyone. The craftsmanship of the upholsterers is evident in the elaborate lapped and felled stitching as well as a horizontal Cacharel pleat along the back cushions, which can be selected as an option.

“SINA” is straightforward, modular, and high-quality down to the last detail – and thus perfectly reflects the high standards that the company has successfully maintained throughout the last six decades. “The Rolf Benz brand stands for international, timelessly beautiful design of the highest quality – manufactured entirely in our two factories in the northern Black Forest. This is the Rolf Benz DNA to which we remain committed. With ‘hidden effects’ – by which I mean long-lasting, invisible functions that further optimize the famous ‘Rolf Benz comfort’ – we will focus on further innovations in the anniversary year 2024,” says Jürgen Mauss, CEO of Rolf Benz AG & CO. KG. With this passion for durable designer furniture and carefully thought-out systems, Rolf Benz creates feel-good spaces that work for every context in the long term – even if that’s the next 60 years.
