STYLEPARK VILLEROY & BOCH
Timeless treasures
Building on the concept of their “Antao” collection, Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider of Kaschkasch present “Antao Earth”. The Cologne-based design duo took inspiration from the shape of a dewdrop to develop an organic silhouette with balanced asymmetry, creating a natural design language. The soft contours characterise the range, emphasising a holistic bathroom design that promotes relaxation and well-being. “It’s not about minimalism in the strict sense,” says Schneider. “It’s about distilling a design down to its central idea.”
With 'Antao Earth', Kaschkasch has added another dimension to this design approach. While the characteristic forms remain, the focus shifts more strongly to the surface. To achieve this, the countertop washbasins in the 'Antao' collection have been finished with Artisan Glaze, a glaze produced in-house. The result of intensive development work, its visual depth is the product of collaboration between Villeroy & Boch's in-house glaze laboratory in Mettlach and the company's design department. 'The challenge lay in combining an emotionally engaging, highly tactile experience with absolute suitability for everyday use,' summarises Florian Kallus. The Sand, Terra and Smoke shades – whose nuances and gradients are inspired by natural landscapes and geological structures – have a dynamic appearance and meet strict standards in terms of ease of care and robustness.
The unique textures of each surface are created during the firing process. “The physical complexity inside the kiln is enormous. Transferring such textures to entire basins in a controlled and reproducible manner requires the utmost precision at the interface between design and high-end ceramic technology,' explains Sebastian Schneider. The deliberate variations in texture highlight the precision of the craftsmanship and give the pieces a distinctive character. This is particularly evident in the interplay of light and water.
Like the entire 'Antao' collection, 'Antao Earth' is the result of Kaschkasch and Villeroy & Boch's shared ambition to harmonise nature, materiality and design. This new version adds an extra design dimension to the range. Thanks to its full compatibility with existing products, it opens up a wide range of possibilities for creating a harmonious bathroom.
