Eames called him a “Florentine magpie”. With “A Designer’s Universe” the Vitra Design Museum is hosting a very interesting retrospective on Alexander Girard.

Alexander Girard and Charles Eames shared a close friendship, which proved highly productive in creative terms. Works by both designers can now be found in Vitra’s “Home Complements” – and this reunion is anything but a chance encounter.

The two Eames, George Nelson and Alexander Girard not only worked together on joint design projects, but were also close friends for decades. However, in the public eye, prints designer Alexander Girard has always been in the shadow of his colleagues. One more reason to take a closer look at his oeuvre.
