Maddalena Corti De Padova, together with her husband Fernando, begins her activity through the import of furniture and objects from Scandinavia, to be sold in the store in Via Montenapoleone in Milan and distributed in Italy.
Maddalena De Padova meets Hermann Miller and the architects and designers Charles Eames, George Nelson and Alexander Girard. Her husband establishes the modern furniture manufacturing factory I.C.F. De Padova in order to produce in Italy the office furniture of the Hermann Miller's collection on license. The collection is launched in another store opened in Via Montenapoleone and distributed by I.C.F. De Padova.
A new and spacious showroom is opened in corso Venezia 14 in Milan, where the collections of home and office furniture produced by I.C.F. De Padova are showed.
After the death of her husband, Maddalena De Padova directs by herself the activity of the production and distribution of Miller's products in Italy.
She starts up the "Edizioni De Padova", and increases the collection importing furniture and objects to distribute for exclusive in Italy, totally new products for the Italian market.
Free from I.C.F., Maddalena continues her deep research of innovative objects, introducing in our country a new concept of living.
Maddalena launches her first own production branded "Edizioni De Padova", in cooperation with the most famous designers in the world such as Achille Castiglioni, Dieter Rams and especially Vico Magistretti, who designs most of the new collection.
De Padova introduces a new collection of office furniture (home/office) which means a revolution in the traditional concept of office and encounters the new demand of taste and working of the last years.
The area of the ex-factory I.C.F. in Vimodrone, near Milan, is reopened, totally renewed and enlarged: there resides the warehouse.
Maddalena De Padova receives from the Cultural Scientific Committee of "Abitare il Tempo" a Prize for "having contributed in essential way to the development of the Italian design".
The collection goes on rising and new designers co-operate beside the historical collaborators: Marco Zanuso jr, Denis Santachiara, Thomas Sandell, Studio Cerri & Associati, Patricia Urquiola, Xavier Lust, Mirto Zocca, Petra Runge.
Maddalena De Padova receives the Career Award by Compasso d'Oro during the XX edition.
The Juries statement: "Maddalena De Padova´s great endeavour for the production and distribution of design, as a common culture and a comparison between different international environments, represents a unique case in our country for its coherence and quality. Since the second half of the Fifties, her research represents in a peculiar way the best synthesis of projects (of manufacturing and products), production and distribution.
Her deep knowledge of Scandinavian, American and Italian design, thanks to her cooperation with the most famous international design masters, such as Arne Jacobsen, Charles Eames, George Nelson, Dieter Rams, Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, just to name a few, and her indefatigable willingness, has made De Padova a worldwide known point of reference for Italian design".
De Padova celebrates its 50th anniversary with a book and an exhibit that retraces the company's history through encounters, interviews, testimonies and images. The 50th anniversary event takes place in Milan during the 45th Milan Furniture Fair and afterwards is hosted by many different distributors around Italy and Europe.
De Padova promotes, in collaboration with Designboom.com, an international design competition to commemorate Vico Magistretti, the Italian architect and designer with a worldwide reputation.
On January 2008 De Padova s.r.l. acquires the Zoltan brand. Zoltan was born in the early '90s thanks to Luca De Padova's intuition and entrepreneurial spirit. Since the very beginning he adopted a product policy which made Zoltan's items easily matchable with the De Padova collection.
The collection develops with a special attention to contract furniture.
In the last three years De Padova stats collaborating with new talents as well as well-known international designer such as Paolo Pallucco, D'Urbino-Lomazzi, Nendo, Damian Williamson, Lorenz*Kaz.
Maddalena De Padova completes the transfer of management to her children. Valeria and Luca De Padova receive and accept the task of further developing the company, giving it a managerial structure, initiating working relationships with new designers like Patricia Urquiola and Jasper Morrison and investing sizeable resources to consolidate the business and to increase its presence on traditional and emerging foreign markets. In January De Padova attends for the first time the Paris fair Now! Design à vivre, supporting its interest in the French market.
At the Salone del Mobile 2009 Valeria and Luca De Padova present new types of products, such as the first outdoor collection designed by Aksu/Suardi and new models such as the modular sofa designed by Jasper Morrison. The collection è De Padova develops in respect of its character and values: simplicity, elegance and consistency of composition.
