Inspired by water
Frankfurt’s Ostend district is one of the most dynamic development areas in this financial hub. In the immediate vicinity of the European Central Bank, an urban neighbourhood comprising flats, office space, hotels and public open spaces is currently taking shape on the site of the Hafenpark Quartier. A notable feature of this development is the HPQ Living Frankfurt residential project, conceived by the B&L Group and designed by Hadi Teherani in collaboration with Albert Speer + Partner. The complex comprises two striking residential towers, spacious terraces and a landscaped inner courtyard, and around 290 flats and townhouses are spread across it. “My designs are intended to inspire the people who live there to come up with new ideas,” says Hadi Teherani, describing his design approach. The gently curving residential towers draw inspiration from their proximity to the water, with the architectural concept translating the shape of pebbles into a contemporary language. The large windows, roof terraces and varied flat layouts also offer a wide range of views of the city and the river.
This holistic approach is also reflected in the interior design. For the bathroom drainage, “CeraFloor Select” and “CeraFloor Pure” shower channels were chosen, along with the “DallFlex” drain housing from Dallmer. The wide range of design options offered by the system, as well as its high hygiene, maintenance and installation standards, were the decisive factors. The DallFlex modular principle provides a functional basis, enabling a variety of designs by combining numerous shower channels with a standardised drain housing. Furthermore, product selection decisions can be made at a later stage of the project. The further-developed "DallFlex 2.0" shower channel system offers even greater design freedom. It is now also possible to combine tiles as thin as six millimetres.
The 'DallFlex' drain housing used in the project is made of polypropylene and features anchoring points around three sides for embedding in the screed. A removable odour and cleaning plug with a 50-millimetre water seal height facilitates maintenance, while an integrated sealing sleeve protects against moisture. Meanwhile, the 'CeraFloor Select' stainless steel shower channel features an integrated gradient that directs water specifically towards the drain outlet, reducing the effort required when laying adjacent floor coverings. Its length can be adjusted to the nearest millimetre. This is complemented by the 'CeraFloor Pure' shower channel, which is based on the same system platform and enables flush-to-surface integration.
The HPQ Living development in the Hafenpark district of Frankfurt am Main is a residential complex in which the architectural standards are evident right down to the bathroom fittings. With its well-thought-out drainage technology and close support throughout the planning and construction phases, Dallmer has played a key role in shaping this residential concept: “The collaboration with Dallmer went smoothly right from the start. We felt well looked after at all times and could always rely on their expertise and service,” sums up Manuel Otto, project manager at the B&L Group.
