From one generation to the next
In the case of these new pieces, the work was based around a specific design language. It is drawing which guided the project, the pencil drew, shifted, proportioned the constituent elements of the piece, putting the tops, for example, in complete balance with the oset legs. Éric Jourdan: “Unlike Hampton, in which the language was very basic, here I use curves and counter-curves, dierent thicknesses...one almost has an excess of vocabulary...”
Éric Jourdan’s new range of furniture comprises a TV unit and a bedside table. These have edges in 8 mm multi-ply which is finished in natural or black-stained oak veneer. The top is in gloss black marble-eect ceramic stoneware or lacquer (plomb or perle). The shelves are lacquered. Light in appearance, asymmetrical and hollowed- out, these are the rounded forms beloved by Éric Jourdan.
The base is finished in oak veneer, with a flat metal reinforcement centre back which lends the overall piece rigidity: this is finished in gris sombre (dark grey) lacquer. The TV unit has a niche (with overhang to the left). The interior of the TV unit is lacquered to match the exterior and is opened via a pushcatch.
A cable port and ventilation panel are located to
the rear of the chest. The TV unit is 1700 mm
wide and 400 mm deep.
In each case, a number of versions are available:
– shelf + flap door in plomb lacquer with top in black marble-eect ceramic stoneware and edging in natural or black-stained oak for a more sophisticated version
– top in plomb lacquer combined with blackstained oak, or top in perle lacquer with edging in natural oak for a more accessible look.
