Three questions to Inga Sempé
Thus for Ligne Roset, Ruché brings together the traditional and the unusual. The unusual, with this solid wood structure, and great tradition with the quilting, the very heart of its expertise. Its rangy uprights and the undulations of its duvet come together in a harmonious combination of severe straight edges and soft curves. Slender and fine, Ruché is nonetheless soft and welcoming. Its internal structure, its padding and quilting were devised to offer great comfort. Since the height of the armrests is the same as that of the back, one may equally sit to one side and stretch out one’s legs: as a major refinement, the armrest is mounted on elastic webbing so that one may lean against it in complete comfort. Apart from the 2 and 3-seat versions, the footstool and the classic one-arm settee, Ruché is also offered in a version of the one-arm settee with a table surface at the end of its seat on which a tray, books, a light, a DVD projector may be placed. This is a new piece which enables those with homes where space is at a premium to enjoy the benefits of a low table without having to actually make room for one.”
To this we can also add that the very design of Ruché produces a range of seating which allies comfort and compactness: since its depth is only 85 cm and lengths range between 170 and 200 cm, it is the ideal choice for small apartments. Finally, its seat height of 45 cm will please everyone, including those who dislike seats which are too low. In 2014, Inga Sempé completed the Ruché range with an armchair with asymmetrical arms. A stylistic effect, certainly, but it is more than that: the high armrest with its elastic-webbed suspension, enables one to lean back comfortably and then hook one’s legs over the low armrest. An island of comfort and relaxation which, when complemented with the Ruché footstool, will not only please women and children. This armchair is available in 2 versions, with the high armrest to the left or right.
In 2015, to further complete the current Ruché range, Inga Sempé devised a medium and large low settee, all the better to appeal to an even wider public. These two new items boast seats which are much lower than is usual for Ligne Roset (height 38 cm instead of 46 cm), greater depth (100 cm instead of 86 cm) and a slanting seat/back with integral lumbar which did not exist in the original version (the comfort of which, whilst certainly soft, is more upright, promoting conversation). In addition, these are systematically supplied with a matching pair of rectangular lumbar cushions H 24 W 59 D 12: these have removable covers and are filled with new goose feathers (10 % down / 90 % feathers), with one smooth face and one quilted face à la Ruché. These new items together offer the twin advantages of remarkable comfort and the look of a true indoor settee which takes it further away from the banquette style. In actual fact the overall height reduces from 83 cm to 65 cm: its low-slung lines enable it to integrate with elegance into all spaces, even smaller ones.
