Knoll: Muecke Wood Collection by Jonathan Muecke
An exercise in materiality and connection.
The new Muecke Wood Collection by Knoll distills design to its essence: reduction, material honesty, and structural clarity. Developed in collaboration with architect and sculptor Jonathan Muecke, the collection combines archetypal forms with a meticulous attention to detail.
Crafted entirely from solid wood, the tables and chairs feature cylindrical rods, exposed end grain, and a consistent joinery system. The elements interlock through a loose tenon connection – a principle that ensures stability while subtly organizing the surrounding space. The repetition of this joint becomes a defining design feature, lending the pieces a calm, rhythmic presence.
Muecke’s approach is rooted in material logic: wood is neither concealed nor embellished, but presented in its natural state. Grain becomes a design partner, and construction becomes an expression of clarity and coherence. The result is furniture that feels familiar yet offers a fresh perspective on the everyday.
