SANCAL: Gradas S by Ben van Berkel

With the Gradas seating series, the Dutch architecture firm UNS (Ben van Berkel) brings the typology of the urban grandstand into the interior. Sancal’s design concept breaks with rigid patterns of use and views seating as a flexible space for social interaction.

While the large-scale versions serve as space-defining elements, the Gradas S armchair translates this sculptural aesthetic into a compact format. Thanks to its reduced dimensions, the model is suitable for both sophisticated residential settings and commercial spaces (contract). Despite its more compact dimensions, the armchair retains the architectural character of the entire collection and offers a flexible, informal way of sitting in contemporary interiors.
