The best of two worlds: Ceno, the upholstered chair by Läufer + Keichel

Changes in business models, varying parameters, new structures - the dynamic changes in the working world result in an increasing need for consensus and decisions. Although in the past there was usually differentiation between formal meetings and informal phases of communication in terms of space, today both invariably take place in the same room: a working lunch follows on from a meeting before tackling the next items on the agenda. Vice versa, it is increasingly the case that meetings are held in hotels where rooms are primarily used for gastronomic purposes. Furnishing solutions that cut a convincing figure in both contexts are therefore the order of the day. Ceno, the new upholstered chair that will be presented for the first time at Orgatec 2008, is an answer to this new meeting and conference culture.

The four-legged chair combines the functionality of a professional conference chair with the sensual qualities of a high-calibre dining chair. Ceno presents clearly defined surfaces and contours, typical of Wilkhahn, which are enhanced by carefully formulated details, subtle geometry and sections with a gentle curvature. This can be seen in the way in which the seat frame integrates with the attachment points which, in turn, smoothly extend into conically shaped, slightly recessed chair legs, as well as the distinctive curvature of the rear section of the backrest. The precision, details and ingeniously simple joints convey the very best in terms of industrial design.

The high quality of form and workmanship is confirmed by the materials used: the seat frame in die-cast aluminium and the chair legs in solid aluminium are bright chromium plated, and the fully upholstered back shell is in polypropylene. Materials for the unitary covers may be selected from a wide range of fine textiles and leathers. The air-permeable cushion unit, inserted into a seat pan, and the resilience of the backrest ensure a pleasant sitting experience, even for longer conferences. The easy stackability of up to five upholstered chairs is yet another aspect that contributes to high quality in use.
